What To Do When Dust and Airborne Particulates Trigger Allergies in Children

McKenzie County, North Dakota, might not come to mind when you think about diesel exhaust and industrial pollution. The area is known for its rolling grasslands, grazing cattle and abundant wildlife along the upper Missouri River.

But since 2009, an oil production boom in and around Watford City, the capitol of McKenzie County, has helped the area become known for towering oil rigs and diesel-fueled tanker trucks. The local population has grown dramatically to support the exploding oil industry. Near Highway 85 on the south end of Watford City, tractor-trailers and flatbed pickup trucks clog the local roads and contribute to elevated levels of air pollution that would be typical of large industrial cities.

Robinson Family allergies increased after move

Soon after Charina Robinson moved to Watford City with her husband (an oil-field worker) and their two children in 2013, she knew it was time to invest in a high-performance air purifier for their home. The local dust and airborne particulates were triggering her children’s allergies, prompting a string of visits to the doctor for allergy shots and medications. Also, Charina began experiencing skin allergies after the move to Watford City.

“Moving to the center of an oilfield boom was making us sick,” says Charina. “Between the dust, chemicals and other pollutants from the gasoline- and diesel-powered trucks all around us, we knew we would have to get the best air purifier on the market.”

The Robinsons had owned ordinary air cleaners in the past, but the noise and frequent filter replacements prompted Charina and her husband to research the best air purifier they could find. After countless hours of research, they chose the IQAir HealthPro Plus.

The solution: The IQAir HealthPro Plus

The improvement was almost immediate.

“Since we bought the HealthPro Plus, my kids’ allergy symptoms have been reduced significantly. They haven’t taken a single over-the-counter allergy medicine in months,” says Charina.

“And I have not needed to visit a doctor for my allergies either,” she adds.

Charina says the HealthPro Plus has also been helpful in her kitchen, because she loves to cook and it helps clear the air when the windows are closed.

“If we ever move again, my IQAir is definitely coming with me,” Charina says. “I would highly recommend the HealthPro Plus to any allergy sufferer, wherever you live.”
